Here is a secret of mine: I have always wanted to go to Greece ever since I watched the movie “The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants” directed by Ken Kwapis in 2005. In the movie, three of the best friends travel while one stays behind for the summer. Lena, a girl in the group of the best friends, goes to Santorini Island, Greece. She learns a lot about herself as she has always held back how much of an artist she is, how courageous, and brave she is. She meets a boy, who makes her live freely, which her family did not like.
This was the summer that changed everything for Lena, and the following summer, her friends follow her there to have that experience with her. Greece opened up parts of her and her friends because they weren’t afraid to make that jump, or touch that fish for the first time. Not only did I learn so much about Greece in this movie, I learned that I wanted more than just to see it on TV. I wanted to be there making that same jump, and making memories that would last forever too.

Some would say after seeing this movie that it was the pants that happened to fit these girls at all different shapes and sizes that they shared, but it was Greece that brought them back together. It was the people they met, the donkey’s they traveled on for the first time (leaving one of the friends on the ground), and for making that jump. Greece seems to be a place of spontaneous times and bubbly feelings of hope. Between growing up on this movie and growing up as a girl like Lena, I would say a trip like this would be enough to bring me out of my comfort zone (which is what everyone needs every once in a while). I’ve grown up around water since the day I could walk, not swim, but walk, and Greece is filled with waters that I must dive into. 100 islands, 1 cliff, 2 girls, and the summer of a lifetime. That will be me with my best friend Ashleigh Nicole Dietz!

Maybe we won’t find the lost pants of these four best friends while in Greece, but we will find that cliff that changed their lives forever. Life is all about risk and it requires you to jump. Don’t be a person who has to look back and wonder what they would’ve or could’ve had. No one lives forever. If there is a place in this world that I’m jumping into on my last life, it’s going to be in Santorini Island, Greece with my best friend.
